About C.R.T.
The C.R.T. Laboratories
The Transportation Safety Laboratory
Inaugurated in April 1988 and financially supported the following year by the Quebec Department of Transportation, this Laboratory provides a forum for all C.R.T. researchers interested in the field. Over the years, the team has pursued its work with financial assistance provided from the joint research program in highway safety sponsored by the Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation (SAAQ), the Quebec Department of Transportation (MTQ) and the Quebec "Fonds pour la formation de chercheurs et l'aide à la recherche (FCAR)", as well as major research grants both from the SAAQ and the FCAR.
The Intelligent Transportation Systems Laboratory
Over the past few years, very large research and development projects were launched in the United States, in Europe and in Japan, with the aim of designing and developping integrated (hardware and software) systems refered to as IVHS (Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems) and nowdays known as ITS (Intelligent Transportation System). These systems seek to integrate technological components from different industrial sectors such as information science and scientific computing, microprocessors, telecommunications, automation and electronics. The purposes of these systems is to reduce road congestion and the impacts of atmospheric pollution and noise, to improve the mobility, to improve the productivity of public transit vehicles and of commercial truck fleets and to improve road safety.
