About C.R.T.

Relations with External Groups

Members of the Centre have always maintained close relations with university and industrial researchers in Quebec, the rest of Canada and the world at large. Such relationships, which may take the form of collaborations, teams, exchanges or team collaborations or exchanges or even inter-institutional framework agreements, are designed to broaden horizons, foster mutual enrichment, advance science and technology, develop knowledge and train specialists.

In Quebec and the rest of Canada, the Centre has become the hub for a genuine Quebec research network. In 1995, its researchers represented over 16 departments in 7 different Quebec institutions of higher learning. Among the groups with which the Centre maintains long-standing relationships are the Groupe d'études et de recherche en analyse des décisions (GERAD); the Centre de recherche informatique de Montréal (CRIM), the Centre d'études en administration internationale (CETAI) at HEC Montréal, and the Groupe de recherche en gestion de la logistique at Laval University.

The Centre also enjoys relationships with researchers from other Canadian provinces with an interest of its field of specialization. Co-operative projects are under way with researchers from the University of Toronto and University of New Brunswick (under a program of the Québec Department of Higher Education and Science to encourage co-operation between Québec and other Canadian provinces), the University of Alberta in Calgary and Edmonton.

With public and private transportation agencies, the Centre has always ensured the relevance of its projects by developing and maintaining regular contact with major players in the transportation industry, including public and private transportation firms, municipalities and government departments. These organizations are the primary clients for most of the Centre's innovative work, and provide considerable support for students receiving their training at the C.R.T. Close co-operation has also been established with public transport agencies, and other municipal agencies, throughout Canada.

A number of co-operative agreements exist with research groups and organizations around the world. Eighteen such arrangements have been concluded with institutions in Belgium, Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Spain and Switzerland. Other exchanges (less formal but no less important) have been concluded with organizations in these countries as well as the United Kingdom, Sweden, India, Morocco, Israel, Poland and Hong Kong. These relationships are very important, as they provide an opportunity for fruitful exchanges and active research collaboration. Many projects currently under way at the Centre had their origins in international co-operation.
